The Story Behind the Coaching

Meet AJ

Built in the Gym. Proven in Life.

Fitness did not come into my life as a hobby. It became my outlet, my structure, and ultimately one of the biggest things that helped save my life.

AJ — certified coach, NPC competitor, and founder of Train With AJ

Where It All Started

Growing up, I was a serious athlete and a strong football player, but I was also a troubled kid. I was hot-headed, restless, and got into a lot of trouble when I was younger. Long before fitness became my career, it became my escape.

Around the age of 12, my dad and I were driving through the neighborhood when I saw a neighbor throwing away an old dumbbell set in the front yard. I asked if I could have it, and from that point on, I used it for everything I could think of. That was the beginning.

Once I started getting into the gym, I fell in love with training. I loved the work, the pain, the challenge, and the feeling of pushing myself. Even as a teenager, I was obsessed. I would leave school through the back door just to get to the gym. I trained constantly, sometimes twice a day for years, driven purely by passion before I even fully understood programming, recovery, or nutrition. I just knew the gym gave me something nothing else could.

At one point, an older bodybuilder who saw me training consistently took me under his wing. He taught me toughness, discipline, and how to push myself beyond what I thought I was capable of. That mentorship helped shape me. The gym became more than a place to work out — it became a place where I started building myself.

My path was not perfect. Before I was 17, I had already been through multiple rehabs, spent time in mental hospitals, and was kicked out of my home at 16. Those years could have taken my life in a completely different direction. The gym became one of the only places that gave me purpose, control, and a way to channel everything I was carrying. In a lot of ways, the gym saved my life.

Military Service & Discipline

Joining the military became another major turning point. Right out of high school, I enlisted and served in the Army with the 10th Mountain Infantry Division. That chapter gave me structure, discipline, and another layer of toughness that changed me for the better.

Even before fitness became my profession, I was already finding ways to coach. During difficult periods of my younger life, I was writing workout plans for other people because training was already becoming part of my identity. After the military, I knew this was what I wanted to do for real.

Building a Career

I pursued my certification, studied the craft, and started building my career from the ground up. My first job as a trainer was at Sports Club/LA at the Ritz-Carlton in Boston. From there, I built a name for myself in Boston's high-end fitness industry, later working at Equinox, David Barton, private facilities, Gold's Gym, and Bayshore Athletic Club.

I also built my own business, trained clients in luxury apartment buildings, and worked with high-level private clientele. Over time, I became known not just for intensity, but for results, loyalty, and the level of care I put into the people I worked with.

I have been lifting and building my body since I was 12 years old. I am also an NPC competitor who has qualified for national-level competition in Men's Physique, Classic Physique, and Bodybuilding.

South Beach & What's Next

In 2020, I moved to South Beach to take my fitness career and my life to the next level. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Miami gave me the chance to grow, connect with people who truly value health and physique transformation, and continue building a life around the thing I've loved most for decades.

What makes my coaching different is that this work is personal to me. I know what it means to need discipline. I know what it means to rebuild yourself. I know what it feels like to search for confidence, purpose, and direction — and to find it through training. That's why I coach the way I do. I care deeply, I pay attention, and I take pride in helping people become stronger in every sense of the word.

For me, fitness has always been bigger than aesthetics. It is about structure, confidence, resilience, and proving to yourself that you can do hard things. That belief has shaped my entire life — and it is the same energy I bring to every client I work with.
